Walnut Creek Intermediate School

Modernization, renovation, and one addition to the existing buildings and portables, as well as improvements to the school’s plazas and recreational spaces and relocation/removal of some of the parking spaces. Buildings 100, 150, 200, 400 and 600 will undergo extensive interior renovations and some exterior alterations by converting 5 of the 12 classrooms to office use in Building 100. Building 150 will be converted from the admiration space into two SDC classrooms with restroom and attached offices. Building 200 will convert three of the 12 classrooms into science labs. Building 400 will make extensive interior renovations and the removal of one appendage to the building. Building 600 will include an addition to the building. The remaining building 300, Library, Modular Building and portables will undergo interior modernizations with new fixtures, ceiling tiles and interior finishes. Exterior improvements and expansion of the school’s plazas, and recreational spaces will be included in the modernization.

Terra Linda High School New Gymnasium

New construction of a 18,522sf competition gymnasium. Work includes demolition of the existing cafeteria and kitchen building and associated site work. Additional work includes the renovation and reconfiguration of the campus frontage to support the new building and site entry/exit. Frontage improvements from the north entry to the beginning of the student parking, and adjacent to the football field.

Library Learning Resource Center

The new Library/Learning Resource Center project is located in the heart of the Solano Community College campus. This Project includes construction of a new 59,252 sf two-story building and demolition of the 49,074 sf old library building. The new LLRC building will contain library functions, tutoring programs, TV Studio programs, the professional development office and training room, and the District’s Data Center and IT department. The foundation system will include rammed aggregate piers, footings and grade beams and floor slab. The main vertical and horizontal building structure will be steel moment frame. The new building includes two elevators, two large open stairs, a bleacher-type tiered seating area, and a very large membrane skylight and corresponding atrium-type opening in the second floor.

New Science Building at Contra Costa College

New construction of a 3-story, 55,000sf. science building at Contra Costa College’s San Pablo campus. New classrooms will include teaching laboratories, laboratory support spaces, student study and tutorial spaces, general-use classrooms, meeting rooms, faculty offices, and related support spaces. The building will also feature a new planetarium.

Chemistry Seismic & Life Safety Corrections at UC Davis Campus

Seismic strengthening of the Chemistry Annex Building including foundation upgrades, concrete bracing and fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) wrapping of columns, a new transformer and generator (to serve a fire pump provided under a separate project), and the following accessibility improvements: New sloped walkways at three (3) primary entries. Enclosure of a 2-story atrium with accessible restrooms at the basement and 1st Floor. Renovation of 3three (3) existing restrooms. New accessible eyewash/showers and drinking fountains.

San Marin High School Performing Arts Center & STEM Building

STEM – The new STEM building will consist of a single-story, 24-foot-high building and associated improvements including a courtyard, outdoor project area, and landscaping. The building will be  approx. 18,466sf. There will be ten classroom/labs, and three tables to create an additional outdoor classroom space to accommodate 320 students.
PAC – The new single-story performing arts center will be 1,545sf. larger than the existing PAC. It will contain a total of 8,010sf.of usable space with seating or 217 auditorium guests.

Stanley Middle & Burton Valley Elementary Modernization(s)

Stanley Middle School (41,528sf.) – Complete upgrades to fire systems, mechanical systems, and electrical systems for eleven (11) classrooms.

Burton Valley Elementary (42,271sf.) – Complete upgrades to fire systems, mechanical systems, and electrical systems for thirteen (13) classrooms.

Terra Linda High School Student Commons

Construction of a new two-story building consisting of cafeteria, kitchen, library, classrooms, and a theater. The fully sprinklered 33,000sf. Building will be type II-B steel braced frame construction with metal stud walls. The site work will include a new plaza between the new building and the existing structures.

PSE Library & Seismic Upgrade Project at UC Davis Campus

Seismic retrofit of the existing Physical Sciences an Engineering Library, and a renovation of the 2nd and 3rd floors. The renovation includes a change of the library use to new offices and meeting spaces for Quantum Mathematics and Physics department. Each floor is approximately 32,000sf, with a basement and 3 floors above ground.

Harder Elementary School

Construction of a new elementary school campus on 7.5 acres in Hayward. 75,000sf. Total. Classroom spaces, flex spaces, multi-purpose room, library kitchen, and cafeteria. Athletic facilities include outdoor play fields and structures. Scope also includes demolition of existing school campus including: buildings, athletic fields, and play structures.

El Centro Elementary School 

New construction of a 24,000sf. multi-purpose building, and modernization to two (2) 38,000sf. classroom buildings. Work also includes the re-purpose of an existing 24,000sf. building which we will then convert into a library. Associated work for five (5) owner-purchased permanent modular buildings that includes stucco work to the outside of the buildings as well as all concrete work. New campus common area, two new playgrounds, the re-configuration of an existing parking lot and addition of a new parking lot.

Athletic Field Improvements at College of Marin Kentfield Campus

Work includes the replacement of the existing natural turf field with a new synthetic turf field, and installation of all-weather synthetic track surfacing, including all drainage and utilities. New construction of four (4) tennis courts, four (4) new sand volleyball courts, and a futsal field. Work also includes new underground electrical and all associated landscaping.

Mariano Castro/Gabriela Mistral Dual Immersion School Phase 3

Renovation of 16 classrooms, ADA upgrades to 3 existing restrooms and the remodel to a staff restroom. Work conducted over the summer break.

Latimer Elementary School Modernization Phase 3

This project included the remodeling of the existing locker room facilities, remodeling of an existing classroom, the relocation of an existing portable classroom, installation of new modular buildings, and construction of a new court yard (including all underground utilities). Reconfiguration of the existing parking lot, and installation of two (2) new outside basketball courts (including site furnishings).

Mariano Castro/Gabriela Mistral Dual Immersion School Phase 2

Construction of an elementary school campus. Includes new classroom buildings, library, and multi-use room with associated utilities and site improvements. With seven (7) buildings being constructed in succession, the designated staging has been mapped out across the site for all subcontractors.

Antioch High School New Cafeteria & Building 1100 Alteration

Cafeteria Building: New construction of an 18,000sf. café including kitchen and outdoor eatery, as well as all associated campus site work. Building 1100: Remodel of existing classrooms including new interior walls, new media center, upgraded lighting, upgraded mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, and renovations to existing restrooms. All associated site improvements.

West Valley College School of Professional Studies

This project consisted of the renovation to the existing Business Division and Administrative Justice Division buildings for a total of 29,000sf. Work included the complete removal of all interior walls and majority of all exterior walls for seismic upgrades, ADA upgrades, and a new fire sprinkler system. This included mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades for classrooms, laboratory room, lecture room, and faculty offices.  Site improvements included ADA upgrades and student lounge.

West Valley College Kvamme Planetarium

New construction of a state-of-the-art Planetarium building at the West Valley College. The planetarium building itself is a concrete foundation with CMU primary shear walls, structural steel support framing, and a concrete roof deck. The roof deck includes a roof observatory with architectural metal wall panels on all building elevations, and a custom door entrance. Scope included the support MEP infrastructure for the planetarium projection dome and the projector lifter assembly.

Holt Building & Budd Shop Modernization Increment 2

Renovation to various San Joaquin Delta College buildings that consisted of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades to seven (7) industrial shops. Work also included interior finish refresh and site improvements.

Woodside High School Wing J Classroom Building

Construction of a new 24,760sf. two-story S.T.E.M classroom building that houses standard classrooms as well as science lab classrooms. The second floor of the building features a new chemistry lab classroom as well as a new robotics classroom. Site improvements included a new courtyard outside of the building.

This project consisted of the modernization to an existing football field. Scope included new grandstands, synthetic track surfacing, and a newly constructed main entry.

Carlmont High School New S.T.E.M Classroom Building

New construction of a two-story wing to house 10 new classrooms. The rooms are made up of six (6) general-use, three (3) state-of-the art science labs, and one (1) photo-journalism classroom. Ample storage space, large white boards, air conditioning, and microphone systems for the teachers were installed in every classroom. The majority of the second floor is made up of glass windows with an indoor lobby area that overlooks the newly constructed courtyard. Our work also consisted of all associated site-work and landscaping.

Carlmont High School Café and Locker Room Modernization

This project consisted of demolition and hazardous abatement to the existing café and locker room facilities, and the new construction of locker room facilities for both boys and girls.  New café features state-of-the art kitchen equipment and outdoor eatery. Both facilities received complete mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades and were constructed to ADA compliance.

Solano Community College Theater & Building 1200 Renovation

This project consisted of a complete exterior façade modernization with a new main building entry. Demolition to the entire interior of the building was completed as well as reconfiguration of the audience seating layout from one into two levels to enhance views of the stage, and to accommodate an audience of 450. Building structural upgrades, replacement of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, and a new roof were installed. All flooring, walls and ceilings were replaced, and new catwalk systems, audio visual systems with production lighting, and rigging were installed. Two building additions were constructed that included: a 2,800sf. area of assembly space in a new lobby, and a 900sf. restroom expansion.

Longfellow Elementary School Modernization

Multi-phased (7) project at a fully-occupied site that included the renovation to the existing 44,340sf. campus. Scope included the addition of a 770sf. elevator system, extensive structural upgrades while coordinating hazardous abatement, demolition, ADA upgrades, new curtain walls, and HVAC and electrical upgrades. We also constructed new student play yards.

Latimer Elementary School Phase 2

Project consisted of upgrades to individual classrooms in six (6) buildings. Technology and audio-visual upgrades, installation of skylights, ADA upgrades, flooring replacement, repainting of building interiors, and installation of tackable wall panels.

Graham Middle School Auditorium

Construction of a new 14,000sf. middle school auditorium. Scope included building demolition, underground utilities and grading for the new building before new construction began. Coordination included multiple container storage onsite for long lead, as well as specialty and custom manufactured equipment and materials that were imperative to maintaining the aggressive schedule.

Graham Middle School Modernization Phase 2

Crittenden Middle School New Auditorium & Library

Construction of a new two-story building housing the library and auditorium. Scheduling with three additional surrounding construction phases proved to be essential to this fast paced project. We made the decision to integrate two superintendents during the heavy civil work to ensure the building was remaining ahead of schedule. Additionally, we installed a scaffold dance floor in the main seating area of the theater ahead of schedule to accelerate the overhead MEP installations.

Hall Middle School Modernization

Modernization to the existing library building and modernization to three (3) existing classroom buildings. Work included new flooring and lighting, as well as upgrades to the plumbing system, associated site work and landscaping.

James Lick Middle School Modernization

This project included upgrading the building for seismic safety, installing new fire safety systems, repairing and replacing electrical and plumbing systems, and improving accessibility for students with disabilities. Reinforced concrete shear walls were built and structural steel collector beams were installed on every floor to transfer the load along the building’s corridors. A new elevator was constructed with its mechanism on the roof inside a tower that also reflects the historical look of the building. An additional elevator was added to the outside of the building and connects to the upper floors via a bridge. Other modernization work on the 100,000 square foot, three-story building included installation of ramps, rails and wheelchair lifts. The accessibility upgrades were the first for JLMS, and brought the school into compliance with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. The school’s band room, which was formerly only accessible from an exterior stairwell, is now connected to the rest of the school’s interior.

De Anza High School Building 10 Linked Learning Center

Construction of a new 17,000sf. two-story classroom building on an occupied campus. The work included new athletic fields (a turf soccer field, new baseball field, and outdoor basketball courts), and all associated playground equipment. New parking lots and newly landscaped areas throughout the campus were also constructed and demolition of selected structures was performed.

Jose Ortega Elementary School Modernization

This project was done on an occupied school campus and was completed in eight (8) construction phases to keep the school operational. Modernization of the 33,000sf. school campus included newly remodeled kindergarten classrooms and new windows, doors, cabinets, whiteboards, floors, lighting, and ceilings, in all additional classrooms. A new intercom system was installed. Demolition of the existing main lobby was completed and a new 5,000sf main lobby was constructed. Scope included site improvements with all new site access ramps and new landscaping.

UC Davis Housing Administration Building Renovation & Regan Hall Seismic

Located in a heavily occupied pedestrian area of the UC Davis campus, this project included renovation and upgrades to three (3) separate housing buildings.

North Building (6,517sf.): Work included seismic upgrades and replacement of existing HVAC system as well as new fencing at exterior mechanical yard. Roofing, exterior cladding and trim, selected interior finishes, and the corridor ceiling were also replaced.

South Building (8,878 sf.): Seismic upgrades, new HVAC controls, replacement of roofing, full exterior painting, new suspended ceiling fixtures, library and lobby interior finish, and lighting replacements.

Regan Mechanical Building (325sf.): Seismic upgrades and replacement of exterior trim, plaster skim coating and exterior paint.

West Valley Elementary School Modernization

Modernization of the existing classroom buildings on can occupied campus that included: structural upgrades, new plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems and new architectural finishes. Work was phased so that portions of the campus could remain in-use during the construction process.

Starr King Elementary School Modernization

New construction of a administration building and modernization of a three-story classroom building. Scope of work included new warming kitchen and new flooring in the existing auditorium.

George Peabody Elementary Modernization and Multi-Purpose Building

Construction of new two-story 7,000sf. multi-purpose building and modernization of the existing classroom and administrative buildings. This project consisted of seven (7) construction phases to keep the school operational during construction. Work included, but was not limited to, the replacement of restrooms, flooring, ADA access upgrades, hazmat abatement, and a major rehabilitation of the HVAC units.

California State University East Bay Organic Chemistry Lab

This project consisted of the renovation of existing classrooms into science labs.  Despite the long lead times for material procurement, the project was completed in three (3) months.

Chabot Community College Bldg 3400

The renovation of an existing classroom building into a “state of the art” BMW training center.  Slated to take eight (8) months, BHM completed this project in less than six (6) months while maintaining a high level of finish.

University Of California Berkeley Calvin Laboratory Remodel

Located on the UC Berkeley campus, this fast-track project included new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, structural modifications, and new finishes.  The project was completed within the four (4) month scheduling constraints.

San Leandro High School Modernization & Seismic Upgrades

Due to window procurement constraints, this project was originally planned to encompass two (2) summers.  By working closely with both the subcontractors and design team, BHM was able to complete the project in one (1) summer.

Mills High School Civil Improvements

This project was completed within the 60 calendar day schedule.  Work included new play courts, pool enclosures, AC paving and walkways, and extensive landscaping.
