New construction of a 24,000 library building. Highlights include a central 55ft x 200ft column-less great room with large open space for a range of activities, including expanded community events and improved flexibility. Adjoining this main hall are three intimate pavilions, each expressed as individual wooden volumes facing Oak Park Boulevard. These include a Messy Makerspace for classes and workshops, a Story Lab for children and for quiet reading and study. Outdoor activity spaces and a Friends of the Library bookstore will offer visitors a more casual way to interact with the building.
The Library was one of six recognized by The American Institute of Architects (AIA) along with the American Library Association (ALA) for excellence in architectural design.
