New Half Moon Bay Library

Half Moon Bay, CA
Media Gallery (7)

New construction of a 22,000 square feet two-story Library.  The contemporary design includes a lobby; children’s, teen and literacy areas, and a roof deck, courtyard and atrium. The project is a net-zero energy building (NZEB)–the first in San Mateo County. The new library also includes a large rooftop photovoltaic array and other energy-reducing building features. Naturally weathering materials (wood, concrete, Cor-Ten steel, copper, zinc, and stone) along with the judicious use of glazing, contributes to a design that is sophisticated yet fits well in its neighborhood. The library features daylit interior spaces, outdoor reading plazas, acoustically separated areas for teen activities, and a flexible maker space. This project was awarded Library of the Year 2019 by the AIA.
